 My main claim to fame is that I am a co-founder and CEO of Shopify.com. Aside from Shopify, I am now doing quite a bit of social media consulting. I am addicted to figuring out cool and innovative ways that social media can help companies grow. Since getting into high tech, I've co-founded two startups and worked at a third. These days I'm super passionate about the Ottawa startup scene and run a blog called StartupOttawa.com. In my past lives, I've been a bike messenger, a university lecturer and a professional driver at NATO HQ in Belgium. I'm also into snowboarding, canoeing, iyengar yoga and ultimate frisbee. I'm also a published writer (zzzz), an exhibited artist and have a PhD in Political Science.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Perfect happiness will occur at the birth of our first child in December 2008.

What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is not being challenged.

What is your favorite journey?
My favorite journey is from downtown ottaw.a to my hammock at my house in the woods in Chelsea, Quebec

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Convicing my wife to marry is my greatest achievement. Finishing my PhD is a close second.

What is your most treasured possession?
My most treasured possession right now is my new iPhone, tomorrow it could be my flip flops.

Who are your favorite authors?
Wayne Johnston is my favorite author.

What are your favorite bands?
My current favorite bands are the Jetplanes of Abraham, Coldplay, Smog, Basic Channel, Deathcab and Elliot Smith.

Who are your greatest heroes, real or fictional?
My greatest hero hands down is Terry Fox.
