Flickr’s business value…
by Scott Lake on June 11th, 2008Following up on my last post about the business value of Twitter, this time I’d like to talk about Flickr. Flickr as everyone knows is a popular social media photo sharing site. In the web application business we rarely meet our clients face to face yet we still expect them to trust us and buy our products. Since people are social beings they generally want to get a feel for who the person is that they are doing business with. Flickr is great for bridging this gap since it is easier to feel trust if you know what a person looks like and you have seen pics of them in their own environment. In fact, the more photos you see of someone on Flickr the more you actually feel that you know this person and have something in common with them.
In short, Flickr’s business value is that in the eyes of clients who you will likely never meet, your pictures help you become a real person who they can feel good about having a business relationship with. That being said, your Flickr stream should not be a business photo-op, it should be a true representation of who you are as a person. As always in social media, authenticity should come above all.
